Is Arizona Going to Reduce the Annual Medical Marijuana Card Fee?
(Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Medical Marijuana, Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, United States, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Dispensaries) Medical marijuana card fees vary significantly by state with Arizona having one of the highest in the country. The state reports having nearly 190,000 patients, many of which struggle to afford the state’s $150 annual fee (plus another $100-$150 for an annual state-required medical marijuana doctor certification ), leaving them unable to renew every year. The Arizona Medical Marijuana Act allows the state to charge a fee that covers the cost of operating the state’s medical marijuana program. Currently, there is a surplus of tens of millions of dollars from the program’s fees imposed on patients and dispensaries . The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), if they decided to, could simply decrease the annual fee to a more reasonable amount; for example, $30 – an amount that will still produce sufficient revenue ($5.7 million produced annually from 190,000 patients) for the state while not putting an unnecessary financial burden on the state’s citizens seeking alternative...

I’ve written this in an attempt to be challenged on why they may have the best business model and find success in the long term. Be forewarned that I’m a strong believer and investor in companies like Origin House so clearly my bias likely shows here as all of these things do tie together... Forward: With the growing discussions on investing in the cannabis industry south of the Canadian border...I thought I would write about something that I don’t buy into. What are you dying to know that am I not buying? “Multi-state operations” as a positive in long-term growth . This is one of many of the newest buzzwords that seems to pop up in articles, videos, and discussions of US cannabis companies and seems to be one of the most influential factors that people on this sub use to determine where to invest their money. Marijuana Helps Insomnia Sufferers, Study Finds
(Alcohol, Cannabis, CBD, Mexico, New Mexico, Products, Research, Software, United States, THC) The use of cannabis is associated with reductions in self-perceived insomnia severity, according to data published in the journal Medicines . University of New Mexico researchers assessed the influence of marijuana use on perceived insomnia severity levels in 409 subjects, NORML reported. Study participants recorded real-time ratings of their symptom severity on a zero to 10-point scale using a mobile software application. Authors reported that subjects “experienced a statistically and clinically significant improvement (?4.5 points on a zero to 10-point scale) in perceived insomnia levels. However, products made with C. sativa were associated with less symptom relief and more negative side effects than products made from C. indica or hybrid plant subtypes.” They added, “CBD potency levels were associated with greater symptom relief than were THC levels.” Researchers concluded: “[O]ur results show that consumption of Cannabis flower is associated with significant improvements in...

(Cannabis, Consultants, Medical Marijuana, Mexico, New Mexico, Recreational, United States, Funding) By Associated Press (AP) — Democratic New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Michelle Lujan Grisham is collecting campaign cash from cannabis companies in the countdown to the November general election. Campaign finance filings released Monday night show several contributions from the state’s burgeoning medical cannabis sector to the congresswoman and candidate for governor since July 1, totaling more than $20,000. Contributors include the Verdes Foundation nonprofit dispensary , Reynold Greenleaf & Associates cannabis industry consultants and medical cannabis home deliverer MJ Express-O. Lujan Grisham was in charge of the New Mexico Health Department when the state’s medical marijuana program began and has expressed support for approving recreational marijuana with adequate health and safety requirements. The Canadian cannabis sector is taking huge steps in establishing guidelines for their product and finding international opportunities in the medical landscape, while the recreational market will officially be legalized in 2018. Congress Speaks: State Medical Marijuana Laws are Safe Until September 30
(Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Cannabis, Colorado, Compliance, Connecticut, Delaware, Distribution, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Medical Marijuana, Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Regulations, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, United States, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Cultivation) Medical cannabis businesses are shielded, for now. State medical marijuana laws and their implementation are safe until September 30th of this year. In a highly anticipated move, Congress extended the protections of the well-known “Rohrabacher-Blumenauer Amendment” (the “Amendment”) last week. This extension is an important political and legal action after Attorney General Jeff Sessions threw the state-legal cannabis industry into a fit from his rescinding of the Obama era Cole Memo in January (he has provided further, largely unhelpful guidance since then). But what impact does the Amendment really have? It could be significant over the coming months, though I am confident that Sessions and other U.S. Attorneys may seek to undermine the spirit of that law as time goes on. The Amendment first passed back in 2014 and has been consistently renewed and extended by Congress in the form of budget riders since then (and this last one is around 2,200 pages ). The Amendment has been construed...

Mile High Money: Colorado Cannabis Sales Total $1.5 Billion in 2017
(Cannabis, Colorado, Mexico, New Mexico, News, Recreational, United States, Recreational Cannabis) Locals and tourists alike spent over a billion dollars on recreational marijuana, bringing in nearly $250 million in tax revenue to state coffers. Since opening the first adult-use cannabis retail dispensary in 2014, Colorado has been synonymous with America’s burgeoning green rush. And in its fourth year of trailblazing, the Centennial State has only grown further, reporting a record breaking $1.51 billion in legal weed sales in 2017. According to a report from the Colorado Department of Revenue and first reported by the Denver Post , $1.09 billion of that cash came from the adult-use recreational market, with an additional $416.52 million from medical sales . Cannabusinesses aren’t the only beneficiaries — the cumulative tax revenue from these sales totaled more than $247 million, a windfall for Colorado’s state budget. However as other states around the country continue to welcome cannabis reform and construct local weed economies of their own, Colorado’s sales growth has continued...

(Cannabis, Legalization, Mexico, New Mexico, Recreational, United States) With New Mexico’s 30-day 2018 legislative session moving quickly along, it’s unlikely legislation related to cannabis will get much traction. Veterans Are Key To Surge Of States Approving Medical Pot For PTSD
(Afghanistan, Alaska, California, Cannabis, District of Columbia, Georgia, Growing, Iraq, Legalization, Medical Marijuana, Mexico, New Mexico, New York, News, Oils, Research, Science, Scientific Research, Synthetic, Testing, United States, Vietnam, Virginia) NEW YORK (AP) — It was a telling setting for a decision on whether post-traumatic stress disorder patients could use medical marijuana. Against the backdrop of the nation’s largest Veterans Day parade, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this month he’d sign legislation making New York the latest in a fast-rising tide of states to OK therapeutic pot as a PTSD treatment, though it’s illegal under federal law and doesn’t boast extensive, conclusive medical research. Twenty-eight states plus the District of Columbia now include PTSD in their medical marijuana programs, a tally that has more than doubled in the last two years, according to data compiled by the pro-legalization Marijuana Policy Project. A 29th state, Alaska, doesn’t incorporate PTSD in its medical marijuana program but allows everyone over 20 to buy pot legally. Marijuana Is Preventing Americans from Using Hard Drugs, Claims Study
(Cannabis, Management, Mexico, New Mexico, United States, Pharmaceuticals) A new study released out of the University of New Mexico suggests that marijuana isn’t the gateway drug it’s been portrayed as for decades. The study actually found the opposite to be true. Researchers said that using marijuana may help prevent people from dabbling in harder drugs like cocaine and ecstasy. Partaking in the study were 125 chronic pain sufferers over a period of 5 years, reports the Independent . Forty-two of the participants chose to abstain from using marijuana while the other 83 used marijuana. Thirty-four percent of those that used marijuana for pain management stopped using their prescribed medications. Only 2 percent of the non-marijuana users stopped using their prescribed medication. The other 98 percent of non-marijuana users maintained their prescription use. Professor Jacob Miguel Vigil said, “Our current opioid epidemic is the leading preventable form of death in the U.S. – killing more people than car accidents and gun violence. Therefore, the relative...
