I’ve written this in an attempt to be challenged on why they may have the best business model and find success in the long term. Be forewarned that I’m a strong believer and investor in companies like Origin House so clearly my bias likely shows here as all of these things do tie together... Forward: With the growing discussions on investing in the cannabis industry south of the Canadian border...I thought I would write about something that I don’t buy into. What are you dying to know that am I not buying? “Multi-state operations” as a positive in long-term growth . This is one of many of the newest buzzwords that seems to pop up in articles, videos, and discussions of US cannabis companies and seems to be one of the most influential factors that people on this sub use to determine where to invest their money. Everyone pops a...

Congress Speaks: State Medical Marijuana Laws are Safe Until September 30

State medical marijuana laws and their implementation are safe until September 30th of this year. In a highly anticipated move, Congress extended the protections of the well-known “Rohrabacher-Blumenauer Amendment” (the “Amendment”) last week. This extension is an important political and legal action after Attorney General Jeff Sessions threw the state-legal cannabis industry into a fit from his rescinding of the Obama era Cole Memo in January (he has provided further, largely unhelpful guidance since then). But what impact does the Amendment really have? It could be significant over the coming months, though I am confident that Sessions and other U.S. Attorneys may seek to undermine the spirit of that law as time goes on. The Amendment first passed back in 2014 and has been consistently renewed and extended by Congress in the form of budget riders since then (and this last one is around 2,200 pages ). The Amendment has been construed...

Sweet Irony: Jeff Sessions Gave His Senate Seat to a Pro-Cannabis Democrat
(Alabama, Cannabis, United States) Last night, liberals and progressives throughout America celebrated when Democrat Doug Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore in a special election to replace a Senate seat in Alabama.Besides the allegations against Moore of racism and inappropriate relationships with underage women, it was also a victory because it cut the Republicans majority in the senate from three to two. But turns out there's another reason to celebrate Jones' victory: He's an ally of marijuana. Jones came out…

Congress just blocked the Justice Department from using funds to interfere with states’ medical marijuana programs. The Rohrabacher-Farr amendment lets states carry on as they were when it comes to medical marijuana, according to The Huffington Post . Congress has included this provision in every budget since 2014. The budget’s provision regarding medical marijuana reads: “None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to any of the States of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia,...

Thankfully, our House and Senate representatives reached a tentative deal yesterday morning to avoid that. Better still, the budget deal extends the Rohrbacher-Farr Amendment provisions, which prohibit the U.S. Department of Justice from spending money to interfere with implementation of state medical marijuana laws. The legislation should pass later this week. The new medical cannabis rider will likely be referred to as the Rohrbacher-Blumenauer amendment, or something similar, as Earl Blumenauer (D.-OR) has replaced outgoing house member Sam Farr as a co-sponsor of the rider. Here is the rider's current proposed language: SEC. 537. None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to any of the States of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky...
