Ohio Dispensaries to Start Selling Marijuana on Jan 16
(Arizona, Cannabis, Guam, Idaho, Medical Marijuana, Northern Mariana Islands, Ohio, Products, Puerto Rico, United States, Dispensaries) Medical marijuana sales begin in Ohio on Jan 16, but marijuana products and inventory will be limited. Initially, dispensaries in Ohio will only sell flower products for vaporizing and prices will likely be high, Cincinnati reports. Only a few dispensaries will be opening since many of the state’s dispensaries are experiencing delays in opening. “Patients in Ohio are finally going to begin accessing medical marijuana safely and legally in licensed dispensaries,” said Chis Lindsey of the MPP . “While this is historic, it is also bittersweet, as implementation of the law continues to be delayed in most parts of the state. Countless Ohioans could benefit from medical cannabis, but only a limited number will gain access to it this week.” Effective medical marijuana laws have been adopted in 32 states, D.C. and the U.S. territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Idaho is the only state without any form of medical marijuana law. The post Ohio Dispensaries to Start...

Republican Lawmakers in This U.S. Territory Just Voted to Legalize Marijuana
(Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Recreational, United States) The House and Senate of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), a U.S. territory in the Pacific Ocean near Guam, have approved legislation to legalize the recreational use of marijuana and allow commercial sale of the drug. If Republican Gov. Ralph Deleon Guerrero Torres signs the bill, it would make CNMI the first U.S. territory to allow recreational marijuana use, as well as the first locality in the United States to create a…

Congress Speaks: State Medical Marijuana Laws are Safe Until September 30

State medical marijuana laws and their implementation are safe until September 30th of this year. In a highly anticipated move, Congress extended the protections of the well-known “Rohrabacher-Blumenauer Amendment” (the “Amendment”) last week. This extension is an important political and legal action after Attorney General Jeff Sessions threw the state-legal cannabis industry into a fit from his rescinding of the Obama era Cole Memo in January (he has provided further, largely unhelpful guidance since then). But what impact does the Amendment really have? It could be significant over the coming months, though I am confident that Sessions and other U.S. Attorneys may seek to undermine the spirit of that law as time goes on. The Amendment first passed back in 2014 and has been consistently renewed and extended by Congress in the form of budget riders since then (and this last one is around 2,200 pages ). The Amendment has been construed...

Guam Bill Opens Door for Medical Marijuana Tourism
(Guam, Medical Marijuana, Recreational, Regulations) A bill to adopt new rules and regulations for the island’s medical marijuana program would allow non-residents to participate in the program–-one of several changes from the original version of rules and regulations, completed last year, but opposed by lawmakers.Voters in 2014 approved the use of medical marijuana on Guam, but implementation has been delayed because of the drafting of rules and regulations and because the government has not issued business licenses for the program. While a few patients since January have been certified to possess medical marijuana, lawmakers were told that business license applicants have been turned away because the government isn't ready to accept applications. RELATED: Guam Bill to Legalize Recreational Marijuana Remains in Limbo Sen. Dennis Rodriguez, D-Dededo, on Monday introduced a bill to adopt the rewritten rules and regulations, with one change-–eliminating the residency requirement for patients to participate in the program. FDA Warns Four Companies to Stop Making Unproven Claims About Marijuana Products
(Cannabis, Food, Guam, Hemp, Medical Marijuana, Products, Puerto Rico) Marijuana doesn’t cure cancer. It has not been shown to somehow explode tumor cells or promote the growth of new brain cells, the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday. The FDA warned four companies to stop making these unproven claims and to stop selling cannabis-based hemp and marijuana products that claim to treat cancer or any other medical condition.“Substances that contain components of marijuana will be treated like any other products that make unproven claims to shrink cancer tumors,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said in a statement. RELATED: FDA Hints It May Explore Marijuana Health Claims The FDA says it is not trying to shut down the sales--just to stop sellers from making unproven medical claims.“We don’t let companies market products that deliberately prey on sick people with baseless claims that their substance can shrink or cure cancer and we’re not going to look the other way on enforcing these principles when it comes to marijuana-containing products.”...
